Social Issues
Costa Rica, a Central American country with approximately 4.872 million population has some serious social issues. There are many social issues and the most serious one is poverty that has a huge negative effect on people's life and more importantly on children. Many children in Costa Rica are suffering from poverty. They are in lack of resources such as food and clean water. Poverty is a big issue not only in Costa Rica but also in the world. You can also see this issue in Africa, where many people lose their lives because of poverty.
There are many important factors that have led to these social issues such as lack of resources, education, immigration, and leads to many diseases. The main factor of poverty is lack of education because many people in Costa Rica didn’t complete their education. As a result, they don’t have a degree to get a job, which leads to financial problems where they can’t support their family. In fact, one Costa Rican child in four lives below the poverty line. This estimate shows that despite a relatively low poverty rate in Costa Rica, 16% of the population is affected by this problem, and children are the primary victims.
Another serious social issue in Costa Rica is violence towards children. The violence suffered by children can come as much from the family as from school. This violence can be physical or sexual and it has a huge negative consequences on young’s health. An evidence about sexual violence against children in Costa Rica is that more than 700 cases were reported in 2009, and it is most likely that many more went unreported. This shows that many children in Costa Rica are suffering due to the lack of education and poverty.
As a result, there are many social issues in Costa Rica that affected people’s life in a negative way. These social issues such as lack of education, poverty, and violence against children are the most serious issues that people are suffering from especially children. Lastly, The government in Costa Rica is trying to solve all of these problems to make a better country.
